Exclusive Preview :: Obedience

Our virtue for the month of May is Obedience : Trusting those who lead you by doing what you’re asked to do. Imagine you’re driving with your parents and you see this sign…

Would you expect your mom or dad to drive straight on through it, ignoring the warning? If you answered yes to that question, I suggest you fasten your seat belt and get mom or dad back to driving school. But seriously, that sign is there for a reason. That sign is there because someone in authority has put it in place for your safety.

Hebrews 13:17 says “Obey your leaders. Put yourselves under their authority. They keep watch over you. They know they are accountable to God for everything they do.”

This whole idea of obedience centers around the idea that God is involved in putting people in authority over you. God has a plan for this authority and the reason is simple. He knows more than we know and, get this: God honestly and unconditionally loves each one of us. He wants to keep us safe, and it is through obedience that we honor Him.

This month, we’re going to be learning about examples of obedience (and disobedience) in the Bible.

Week 1: It’s always better to do what God says the first time.
(The story of Jonah; Jonah 1-3)

Week 2: How I obey my parents shows what I think about God.
(Children, obey your parents; Ephesians 6:1-3)

Week 3: Obeying your leaders can help you know God.
(The Lord calls Samuel; 1 Samuel 3:1-19)

Week 4: It’s right to listen to God because He is GOD.
(Adam and Eve disobey; Genesis 3:1-24)

Week 5: 5th Week Special Edition: How can you know what to do if you don’t know what God says?
(The wise and foolish builders; Matthew 7:24-29)

This is going to be an exciting month and we can’t wait to see you! !
