Penguins…

Posted on Feb 27, 2009 by micah.woodard

Hey guys,

We have some pretty awesome stuff coming up over the next couple of weeks.  One of those things is with the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Penguins hockey team.  They are going to be having a “Faith and Family Night“ on Sunday, March 8th featuring Dave Dravecky who will share his story after the hockey game.  Dave Dravecky was a Major League Baseball player from 1982 until 1989 when an ongoing battle with cancer and the loss of his arm forced Dave to retire from professional baseball.  You can check out his story a little more at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21UxZTGTbtA

In light of this opportunity, we will not be having our regular High School Gathering.  We are encouraging students to attend the hockey game with their families or by grouping up with each other.  The cost is $18 for adults, $10 for kids 2-14, and kids under 2 are free.  The game starts at 5:05 pm. In order to get tickets at the discounted price you must contact Mike Chatburn at mchatburn@wbspenguins.com.  You can learn more at http://o8o9.wbspenguins.com/Tickets/FFN1.asp

advocacy…

Posted on Feb 24, 2009 by micah.woodard

what is advocacy? let’s see what other people have to say.

“Advocacy is the pursuit of influencing outcomes — including public-policy and resource allocation decisions within political, economic, and social systems and institutions — that directly affect people’s current lives.”

“The act of pleading or arguing in favor of something, such as a cause, idea, or policy; active support.”

“The Sound of Citizen’s Voices”

so here’s the question…are you an advocate?  who do you fight for?  who do you stand up for?  who do you speak out for?

this friday is your chance to be an advocate for hundreds of people.  join us in the 30 hour fast as we
